• Dreams of the Moon, a feature script I wrote for Alfons Adetuyi, is a coming-of-age story set when the Apollo 16 astronauts came to Sudbury, Ontario to train for the moon landing. It was literally days away from photography when the virus shut it down. With luck, it will start shooting in Spring 2022. A Canada-South Africa co-production.
• Sawah a script I wrote with an international team in Luxembourg, won the CinemaEuropa Prize and is now on Netflix in 46 countries and Amazon USA. A Luxembourg/Belgium/Egypt co-production, it’s the story of an Egyptian DJ during Arab Spring who’s heading toward the gig of a lifetime in Brussels—but loses his passport and gets sidetracked in Luxembourg. A comedy about today, directed by Adolf El Assal.

In the Works:

• The Evening Chorus, based on Helen Humphreys’ evocative novel—three interwoven stories of love, loss and nature—during WWII. Produced by Alkaia Films, Buffalo Gal Pictures and Port Pictures (Once), directed by Adrienne Mitchell.
• Adolf El Assal and I are now working on a new feature, Hooped—and are in development on a comedy series spun from the Sawah characters called Saving Rosa. Both projects generously supported by Luxembourg Film.

Dennis Foon

Playwright/screenwriter/director born in Detroit, Michigan, specializing in children's theatre.

He studied at the University of Michigan and then at the University of British Columbia before founding Green Thumb Theatre for Young People in Vancouver in 1974.

He wrote for Green Thumb, but soon was writing for most of the theatres for young audiences across the country. He became playwright in residence at Young People's Theatre during the 1983-84 season.

His plays include:New Canadian Kid (Green Thumb, 1981, directed by Jane Howard Baker); Liars (Green Thumb, 1986, directed by Keith Turnbull); Bedtimes and Bullies (Young People's Theatre, 1987, directed by the author); War (Green Thumb, 1994, directed by Guillermo Verdecchia, winner of Vancouver's Jessie Award); Sunspots (Frederick Wood Theatre, 1995, directed by S. Malloy); Chasing the Money (Manitoba Theatre for Young People, 1999); The Rick Hansen Story (Manitoba Theatre For Young People, 2010, dir. Leslee Silverman).
