Clyde E. Peterson
Clyde Peterson, known across Houston, the states of Texas and Tennessee, country, and world as CPHouston, passed away peacefully with his family by this side on January 20, 2025.
For forty years, Clyde was the award winning, internationally syndicated editorial cartoonist for the Houston Chronicle. More than that, he was the fun and loving husband of Sarah, exceptional father of Nancy and Fay, and Papa Clyde to the pride of his life—his four grandchildren.
Clyde was born in Covington, Tennessee, and spent his early life primarily in Bartlett (Memphis), Tennessee, as well as small towns in Missouri, Kentucky, central Tennessee, and Niagara Falls. He is preceded in death by his loving mother Ann Gaddy and stepfather J.L. Gaddy, and his father Hugh M. Peterson, stepmother Irma Peterson, and his sister Pat Gillespie.
Clyde graduated from Bartlett High School where he began drawing pictures for—and of--his classmates. He and a special group of friends, the Bartlett Bombers, remained close throughout the years. After graduation, he entered the Army and served in Korea among other places. Upon his discharge, he attended Austin Peay State College.
