    Jon Ryan Schaffer (born March 15, in Franklin, Indiana) is a heavy metal guitarist, songwriter, seditionist and snitch. He is the founder of the heavy metal band Iced Earth.

    At the age of 14 Jon got his first guitar and began writing music. At the age of 16 he moved out of his parents' home and went to Tampa, Florida. In Schaffer founded the power/thrash metal band Purgatory, which quickly changed its name to become Iced Earth. He is now the only remaining member of the first line-up, and the only band member that can be heard on every album. He also is the band's main songwriter, writing most songs completely on his own. Jon has suffered from neck injuries, some of which resulted in surgery, that still plague him today. In Jon became a father with the birth of his first daughter.

    Schaffer has also recorded and toured with Demons & Wizards, his side project with Blind Guardian vocalist Hansi Kürsch.

    Jon Ryan Schaffer (SHAY-fər; born March 15, )[1] is an American heavy metal musician. He is the rhythm guitarist, bandleader and principal songwriter of the Indiana-based heavy metal band Iced Earth, which he formed in under the name Purgatory. He is also the lead singer in his political side project Sons of Liberty and, until , played guitar for Demons & Wizards, his collaboration with Blind Guardian frontman Hansi Kürsch. In a poll by Guitar World, Schaffer was ranked as the 25th-best rhythm guitar player of all time.[2]

    Schaffer is a founding lifetime member of the far-right Oath Keepers militia. He pleaded guilty to crimes related to his participation in the January 6 United States Capitol attack in and was sentenced to three years probation.
