Your father, Oniru of Iruland, Oba Idowu Abiodun Oniru, passed on recently at the age of 82. What effect has the loss had on you?
It’s been very tough. I thank God that he lived for 82 wonderful years, but I don’t think anyone is ever ready to lose a parent.
Where were you when you heard about his death?
I was at work.
How did you hear about it?
I received a call. I left immediately and went to the palace.
What was the first thing that came to your mind when you heard the news?
It didn’t feel real; I thought I was dreaming.
How close were you to your father?
We were quite close. He was one of my favourite people.
So when you think about him now, what are the fondest memories you have of him?
He loved to dance, so I think about the many events where he graced the dance floor and became the centre of attention.
