The lawyers agreed among themselves that they would not discuss their personal preferences, and would not try to influence us in any way. Some of the families felt that we were passing up a chance to "showcase" the event again, and that the media exposure was invaluable. On the other hand, some, including ourselves, felt that there was nothing new to be learned, and that we had little chance of any financial settlement, even with a favorable verdict. The lawyers were well prepared and we never lost confidence in their ability to present a winning case. BUT, there remained the physical condition of Dean Kahler and Joseph Lewis, and possibly others, who would need the financial settlement to help establish useful lives.
